On the Mediterranean coast we find a beautiful town called Sitges. Only 30 minutes south from Barcelona airport and very easily accessible by car or by train. This wonderful town is surrounded by the Garraf’s Mountains and produces a micro-climate that allows Sitges to have an excellent weather all year round.
Sitges has more than 28,000 inhabitants. 30% are foreigners that are very happy and proud to call Sitges their home. Originally occupied by the Romans, Sitges’ port was used to trade all different kinds of products from the Penedès region.

Sitges had more farmers than fishermen. Their main economy activity was the vineyards.
At the time, Sitges was very hard to access, even though it was close to Barcelona. But in 1879, started to develop as a resort in the summer and used as medicinal therapy and spa. In 1881, with the railway line from Barcelona, the tourism took off as more people could access this beautiful town.
In 1891, with the arrival of Santiago Rusiñol, Sitges became the main cultural center of the modernists.
Charles Deering, an American millionaire, visited Sitges in 1909 and converted a street in the historic core into the Palau Maricel. This helped Sitges to become one of the most touristic place in Spain.
